About the Job.
Editorial Director is an editorial leadership position at Power Automedia, and is ultimately responsible for the editorial products we produce. This position leads the content aspects of our editorial team, and is responsible for developing exciting and engaging editorial ideas, motivating the editorial team, editing content, cross-checking facts, format, writing style, readability, and photos/videos, and executing the social media and distribution strategy. The Editorial Director is responsible for editorial direction and to make sure every magazine is consistent with content quality, popularity, and credibility. The Editorial Director works hand in hand with the Creative Operations Director and other members of Editorial Leadership to lead the editorial team.
All editorial content – written, video and social – across all platforms.
Act as an ambassador for the automotive community – ensure all of our editorial and video content has credibility, and puts the reader or viewer first.
Ensuring that we have a system in place to reject poorly written, plagiarized, or ghost-written content.
Upholding content strategy for each magazine, working with editorial team leaders.
Plans & directs weekly and monthly editorial content meetings throughout the various magazines and video production teams to strategize on content.
Developing a functional content calendar, and making sure each editorial team incorporates that calendar.
Ensuring all content is consistent in style, quality, layout, and tone of voice, and is ‘on-brand.’
Executing the social media strategy.
Participate in the hiring and supervising of key content creators.
Collaborating with our Creative Operations Director to develop standards, systems, and best practices for content development, creation, editing, publishing, distribution, and marketing.
Involvement with Editorial Leadership in the process of editorial budgeting.
Skills & Experience.
Superior automotive knowledge and passion, including technical experience and knowledge.
Proven editorial skills. Outstanding command of the english language. Training or experience as an automotive journalist, knowing how to utilize content (words, images, and video) to draw in an audience in a powerful way.
Outstanding photography experience and the eye for great photography and videography.
Leadership and people skills required to motivate and inspire creative people. Fluent in navigating the balance of art and commerce.
Skill at both long-form content creation & real-time content creation and distribution strategies and tactics.
Passion for digital media, including a substantial knowledge base in social media and emerging web platforms.
The Editorial Director is measured on the continual improvement of viewership and engagement. Success criteria include:
Website, video, social media traffic growth.
The team’s production of top quality automotive writing, photography and videography.
Social media positive metrics.
Positive reader, viewer, and client feedback and survey data.
Development of a robust team of content creators and leaders.
Experience and Education Required
Bachelor’s degree is a plus.
5-10 years of experience as a respected leader in content creation (publishing, journalism, etc.).
Superior Automotive & Technical Knowledge: classic and late model muscle cars, diesel, off-road, and drag racing.
