Are you looking to take your knowledge of materials and mechanics to the next level for a progressive company? If so, GrimmSpeed is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with automotive expertise. Responsibilities will include researching, planning, and designing mechanical products, systems, and accessories related to automotive applications of high-performance cars. The engineer will also be directing and coordinating activities involved in fabrication, operation, application, and installation of mechanical or electromechanical products and systems.
Where you’ll spend your time:
Use SolidWorks extensively to design stylish aftermarket automotive components and systems to achieve maximum performance. (e.g. intercoolers, air intakes, exhaust, intake manifolds, headers, other accessories, etc)
Manage multiple projects from conception through production by researching, planning, and designing automotive performance products and systems
Write technical specifications and engineering documents; develop bills of material, technical product installation manuals and owner’s manuals. May create illustrations
Interact with internal and external entities such as purchasing, quality control, manufacturing, customer service, installation and outside vendors throughout all phases of product development.
Research various external component and materials suppliers and review specifications to ensure component compliance and compatibility with our products
Research, analyze and compare various material properties in order to choose and/or recommend the best materials for a given product or application
Research OEM, competitive products, and patents - and make recommendations for design strategies
Be able to design and/or fabricate test apparatus and equipment, and the development of methods and procedures for testing products and systems. Analyze test data and summarize findings, write technical engineering reports and engineering documents
Leverage 3D scanning printing capabilities to design products in a manner that will allow efficient and cost-effective manufacturing and/or fabrication. Understand how to design or modify parts to be rapid prototyped or 3D printed
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and 5+ years mechanical engineering experience utilizing SolidWorks, OR equivalent combination of experience and education within the automotive industry
Experience working for a start-up/small company’s engineering department is a plus
Proficiency with SolidWorks software (required); PolyWorks experience (preferred)
Experience working on automobiles and having extensive knowledge of aftermarket parts is desired
Knowledge of foundry processes (preferred)
Experience working with vendors, negotiating pricing, and seeking out new manufacturing partners strongly desired
Able to lift 50+lbs, and be able to efficiently and competently take apart and re-assemble vehicles
Must be able to adhere to attendance policies and attendance requirements.
